Q: Do I need to be 13-18 years old when I apply? OR when I travel?

A: You must be 13-18 years old on the date you apply.

 

Q: Can I do the video with a friend? Can I apply with a friend?

A: You can have a friend help film you, or feature a friend in your video, but only the person submitting the video will be eligible for entry.

 

Q: Do I have to do the video and the word submission?

A: No, just one or the other.

 

Q: Is the one-minute length of the video a strict rule? What if my video is over one minute?

A: Your video cannot exceed one minute.

 

Q: How will the EF Canadian Youth Ambassadors be chosen?

A: A panel of thought leaders from across the country who represent both private and public sectors will review the applications and select a minimum of two Ambassadors from each province and territory.

 

Q: Do I need to post on social media?

A: Yes, share your entry on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook with #youthleadchange #imwithef and tag @eftourscanada to inspire others to make a positive impact on their community.

 

Q: What do I post on social media if I’m submitting my idea in written format?

A: Feel free to upload anything that relates to your idea. Don’t forget to include #youthleadchange and a quick description of your idea in the caption!

 

Q: Can I submit my idea in English or French?

A: Yes, you are welcome to submit your application in either English or French.

 

Q: What’s the cost to participate?

A: None. There are no costs to participate in the program. If you are selected as a Youth Ambassador, your travel costs would be sponsored by EF. See the Rules and Regulations for more information.

 

Q: What will the successful applicants be doing?

A: Selected EF Canadian Youth Ambassadors will have the opportunity to receive mentorship from Members of Parliament, Senators, and community leaders to help turn their idea into reality. They will travel together on an international tour as well as to Ottawa where they will meet their mentors.

 

Q: What does the red box in the application mean?

A: Either you are missing information, or you have gone over the word count in the essay submission.

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

No purchase required.  Contest begins on October 7, 2019 at 12:00 a.m EST and ends on November 5, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST. There is a total of 30 Program Spaces available to be won consisting of one (1) place on the EF Canadian Youth Ambassadors in Panama tour. The tour is to Panama, offered in English only during spring 2020 (approximate retail value $5,000 CDN) and one (1) place on a three (3) day tour to Ottawa (dates to be determined). Open to legal residents of Canada and Quebec (Two (2) Program Spaces available for Quebec applicants) and registered students in good standing at an accredited high school, who are between the ages of 13-18 at time of entry and who is not an employee of the Sponsor, its subsidiaries, affiliates, related companies or agencies, or a member of their immediate families or any person with whom they are domiciled, or an employee of any other company providing educational tours. EF Canadian Youth Ambassador Program 2020

NO PURCHASE OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

  1. SPONSOR: The EF Canadian Youth Ambassador Program (the “Contest”) is sponsored by EF Institute for Cultural Exchange Ltd., located at 80 Bloor St West Toronto M5S 3V1 ON (the “Sponsor”).

 

  1. ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to legal residents of Canada (including residents of Quebec. Two (2) Program Spaces are available for Quebec applicants and registered students in good standing at an accredited high school, who are between the ages of 13-18 at time of entry, with the exception of employees of the Sponsor, its parent, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, departments or agencies, franchisees, suppliers, advertising and promotional agencies, contest administrators, and any other parties engaged in the development, production or distribution of Contest materials and those living in the same household.   By participating in this Contest, entrants acknowledge compliance with, and agree to be bound by, these Contest Rules.  Entrants who do not comply with any of the Contest Rules are subject to disqualification by the Sponsor, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion.

 

  1. CONTEST DATES AND TIMES: The Contest begins on October 7, 2019 at 12:00 a.m EST and ends on November 5, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST (the “Contest End Date”) after which time the Contest will be closed and no further entries shall be accepted.

 

  1. HOW TO ENTER: You can enter only at eftours.ca/youthleaders by completing the application form with your first name, last name, year of birth, phone number, email, school name, teacher reference and province.  For this Contest, receipt of an Internet entry occurs when the Sponsor's servers record the entry information.  All entries must be complete and are subject to verification by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion. Limit of one (1) regardless of method of application. Any attempt or suspected attempt to use robotic, automatic, programmed, or otherwise, illicit means to enter the Contest, or any other methods not authorized by these Contest Rules, for example, but not limited to, creating multiple accounts, identities, or registrations, all in the Sponsor’s sole discretion, shall be deemed as tampering and may disqualify you from entering, participating and/or winning a prize.  Entries that contain false or incomplete information are void.  Entries that are late, lost, stolen, illegible, contain false information, are damaged, misdirected, mutilated, garbled or incomplete, altered or otherwise irregular or that do not conform with or satisfy any or all of the conditions of the Contest Rules are void.  Entrants grant Sponsor a non-exclusive license to use all entries for any purpose.  No correspondence will be entered into except with selected entrants.  Proof of transmission (screenshots or captures, etc.) does not constitute proof of entry or receipt of an entry.

 

  1. CONTEST PRIZES: There will be thirty (30) Program Spaces, including two Program Spaces reserved for Quebec applicants, available to be won by selected applicants from among all eligible applications received by the Contest End Date. The odds of winning are dependent on the number of entries received by the Sponsor during the contest period in accordance with these rules. Each Program Space consists of:
     • one (1) place on the EF Canadian Youth Ambassadors in Panama tour. The tour is to Panama, offered in English only during spring 2020. The Program participant recipient will join peers from across Canada for an EF Educational Tour. The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any recipient prior to the tour if they do not continue to exemplify the qualities of a Canadian Youth Ambassador or if, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion, their participation on the tour would no longer be appropriate. The Program tour includes: return economy class airfare tickets, departing from and returning to the Canadian International Airport closest to the Program participant’s residence; overnight stays in tourist-class hotels, based on double occupancy and/or alternate overnight accommodation as outlined specifically in the awarded tour itinerary; select meals as outlined specifically in the awarded tour itinerary; the services of a full-time Tour Director for the duration of the tour; sightseeing tours as outlined specifically in the tour itinerary; visits to special attractions as outlined specifically in the tour itinerary; and transportation to and from all activities outlined specifically in the tour itinerary (transportation to and from free-time activities not included).
     • one (1) place on a three (3) day tour to Ottawa (dates to be determined). The Program participant recipient will join peers from across Canada for an EF Educational Tour to Ottawa, including guided sightseeing and opportunities for youth participants to meet with MPs, Senators, and key influencers from the public and private spheres. The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any recipient prior to the tour if they do not continue to exemplify the qualities of a Canadian Youth Ambassador or if, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion, their participation on the tour would no longer be appropriate. The Program tour includes: return economy class airfare tickets, departing from and returning to the Canadian Airport closest to the Program participant’s residence; overnight stays in tourist-class hotels, based on double occupancy and/or alternate overnight accommodation as outlined specifically in the selected tour itinerary; select meals as outlined specifically in the awarded tour itinerary; the services of a full-time Tour Director for the duration of the tour; sightseeing tours as outlined specifically in the tour itinerary; visits to special attractions as outlined specifically in the tour itinerary; and transportation to and from all activities outlined specifically in the tour itinerary (transportation to and from free-time activities not included).
     The Sponsor is not responsible if weather conditions, event cancellations, strikes, lockouts, labour disturbances, or other events beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control limit or restrict access to any of the planned excursions or locations on the tour. The Program participant must have proof of valid travel documents prior to ticketing and the right to fly and to enter the destination country as outlined on the tour itinerary. The recipient is responsible for ground transfers to and from the designated departure airport (or other departure site, as may be the case should the Sponsor judge that air travel is not required due to the recipient’s proximity to the tour destination). All expenses not otherwise specified herein, including but not limited to: optional excursions, insurance, medical travel documents, baggage fees, passport and/or visa fees, beverages and meals not specifically outlined in the tour itinerary, and personal expenses are the sole responsibility of the recipient. No frequent flyer miles, or travel rewards of any kind will be available on this Program. In no event will the Sponsor be liable for more than thirty (30) Program Spaces. Each Program space will be awarded to a maximum retail value of approximately $5,000 CDN, with the cost of the participant’s tour being covered completely (subject to the conditions and qualifications set out in these Program Rules). The Program Space cannot be transferred to another person or to another date. All EF Tours are subject to EF’s Booking Conditions (the terms of which can be obtained by calling 1-800-263-2806 or found at eftours.ca/bc). Each potential Program Participant will be required to review and agree in writing to such Booking Conditions in advance of being awarded any Program Space. A condition of accepting and being awarded such Program Space, participants will be compliant in full with such Booking Conditions.

 

  1. PROGRAM PARTICIPANT SELECTION AND CONFIRMATION: The selected finalists of the Contest will be contacted by telephone upon selection no later than February 3, 2020. If a selected entrant cannot be located or does not respond within five (5) business days of notification the selected finalist will be disqualified. In the event of a disqualification the Sponsor is not required to select another finalist. The Sponsor will not be responsible for failed attempts to notify any selected finalist. The selection will be conducted by a panel of judges selected by the Sponsor using a selection criteria rubric available at eftours.ca/youthleaders. Finalists will be selected and may be interviewed, after which the thirty (30) Program participants will be determined. All decisions are final and the sole discretion of the Sponsor. The Selected Entrant will be deemed a winner if they meet all of the eligibility criteria set out in these Contest Rules.  If a Selected Entrant does not meet the eligibility criteria, he/she will be disqualified and will not receive a prize. In order to be declared a Program participant, the selected participant will be required to sign and return a Release and Agreement Form (the “Release Form”) which confirms compliance with the Program Rules and releases the Sponsor and its subsidiaries, affiliates, related companies or agencies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (collectively the “Releasees”), from all liability with respect to the participation in the Participant by the recipient and the acceptance of the Program Space as awarded, without substitution, by the recipient. The Release must be returned within the time period specified on the Release or the Program space will be forfeited by such recipient. The selected recipient may be required to furnish proof of identification as part of the verification process. A selected recipient shall be deemed ineligible if he or she has won a scholarship in any similar Scholarship run by the Sponsor in the last twelve (12) months preceding the Program Application Period. No changes may be made to the dates for the Program tour by the recipient after the Program Booking. If the Program space is forfeited by a potential recipient for any reason whatsoever, the Sponsor is not required to select another finalist.

 

  1. RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION: The winner must sign the Sponsor’s Booking Conditions and (ii) agree to accept the prize as awarded; (iii) release, discharge and hold harmless the Sponsor, its departments and agencies, parent, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, franchisees, advertising and promotional agencies, counsel, marketing partners, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, shareholders, successors, sponsors, partners, licensees, subsidiaries, agents, artists, advisors, assignees, and all others associated with the administration, development and execution of the Contest (the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all manner of action, cause of action, claim or demand, loss or injury, use or misuse of a prize or any travel related thereto, and the use of the Entry by the Sponsor, suit, debt, covenant, contract, including legal fees and expenses, whatsoever, including but not limited to, claims based on negligence, breach of contract and fundamental breach, failure of any third party contractor or supplier used in connection with any aspect of the Contest to perform or deliver any goods or services, any act of God or any other event beyond the Released Parties’ control, any dissatisfaction of any kind by a winner with any aspect of the Contest or any prize, liability for physical injury, death, or property damage which the entrants, guests, their heirs, successors or assigns have, might have or could have suffered, by reason of or arising out of the entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by the entrant of the Prize as awarded; and (iv) indemnify the Released Parties against any loss, damage or expense, including legal fees, that any of the Released Parties may suffer or incur as a result of any non-compliance by an entrant with any of the Contest Rules or participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by an entrant of a prize and the use of the Entry by Sponsor.
    The Sponsor is not responsible for: (i) incorrect or inaccurate entry information which may affect a person’s ability to participate in the Contest or be awarded a prize, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost or delayed entries for any reason, mail failures, omission, or any combination thereof, and entries which fail to fully comply with these Contest Rules; (ii) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (iii) lost, incomplete, delayed, mutilated or misdirected entries or Declaration and Release forms; (iv) injury or damage to the entrant’s computer or to any other individual’s computer related to or resulting from participating in, or downloading any material regarding the Contest or accepting a prize; (v) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize, including any travel related thereto and the use of the Entry by Sponsor; (vi) the security or privacy of information transmitted via computer networks or for breaches of privacy due to interference by third party computer “hackers” or otherwise; or (vii) late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify a potential winner.

 

  1. LANGUAGE: In the event of any discrepancies between the English language rules and the French language rules for this Program, the English language rules shall prevail.

 

  1. FOR RESIDENTS OF QUÉBEC: (a) Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity Program may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses, et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a Program may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses, et des jeux only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement. Additionally, in accordance with conditions submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses, et des jeux, no more than two (2) Program Spaces will be awarded to applicants from Quebec.

 

  1. NAME AND IMAGE OF PARTICIPANTS: By entering, each Program participant, if he or she is selected as a potential recipient of the Program space, consents to the use of his or her name, school name, city and province of residence, and/or photographs, without further remuneration, in connection with any publicity carried out by or on behalf of the Sponsor. The Sponsor and/or its affiliates, related companies or agencies, and their respective employees and agents, will have the right to photograph the Program participants while on the Program tour for use in future promotions, without further remuneration.

 

  1. GENERAL CONDITIONS: (a) This Program is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.
  1. The Sponsor reserves the right to terminate or amend this Contest at any time and in any way, without prior notice.  Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned for any reason, the Sponsor reserves the right to cancel the Contest and conduct a random draw from all previously received eligible entries received by the Contest End Date

 

  1. all applications become the property of the Sponsor and none will be returned. No correspondence will be entered into except with selected applicants.

 

  1. By participating in the Program, all selected applicants release the Releasees from any loss, damage, or claims caused by or resulting from participation in the Program, or the acceptance or use of the Program space, including but not limited to any injury or damage to an applicant’s or to any other computer.
     
  2. The Sponsor is not responsible for typographical or other errors in the offer or administration of the Program, including but not limited to, errors in advertising, the Program Application Rules, or the announcement of the Program participants.
     
  3. No responsibility is assumed by the Sponsor for any inability of any person to successfully enter the Program for any reason, including any problems or technical malfunction of any internet or telephone network or broadcast transmission during the Program. The Sponsor assumes no responsibility for falsified, late, lost, damaged, misdirected, garbled, or incomplete applications. Proof of transmission (screenshots, etc.) does not constitute proof of delivery.
     
  4. The Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any applicant from the Program in the event it is determined that he or she has applied in a fashion not permitted by the Program Application Rules or any other pertinent terms or conditions referenced in the Program Application Rules.
     
  5. Applications generated by script, macro, robotic, programmed, or any other automated means are prohibited and will be disqualified.
     
  6. Any attempt by an applicant or any other person to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Program may be a violation of criminal and civil laws. Should any such attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.
     
  7. By applying to the Program, all applicants give consent to the collection, use, disclosure and management of personal information by Sponsor and authorized External Providers.

 

  1. Intellectual Property: All intellectual property, including but not limited to trademarks, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, images, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Sponsor.  All rights are reserved.  Unauthorized copying or use of any copyrighted material or other intellectual property without the express written consent of the Sponsor is strictly prohibited.  The Sponsor’s marketing or other partners, if any, shall also have access to and rights to reproduce, copy or otherwise use any materials generated by this Contest or any submissions or materials generated by entrants.
