Your full-time Tour Director meets you at your arrival airport and travels with your group 24 hours a day while on tour. They are responsible for:
Tour coordination
The Tour Director coordinates every travel detail on tour, including bus transportation, hotels and accommodations, meals and special excursions.
Local knowledge
At every stop along the way, the Tour Director will introduce the group to the city and offer unique insights about the local culture. Travelers can turn to their Tour Director for any questions about the destination—even for something as simple as restaurant suggestions for lunch.
24-hour support for travelers
The Tour Director travels with the group from the moment they arrive to the last goodbye at the airport.
On-tour emergencies
Tour Directors are trained to handle any emergencies that might arise. Tour Directors, who have passed a background check and screening process, have 24-hour access to local EF offices as well as our worldwide and North American headquarters.
24/7 Global Support
We are committed to the safety of our travelers. Thanks to our worldwide presence—we have 500 schools and offices in more than 50 countries—we have local EF staff members anywhere they go. That means we can react quickly and in person whenever and wherever needed.
We closely monitor Global Affairs Canada and work with our local staff abroad to remain aware of any developments which could impact our travelers so that we can make necessary changes. A few past examples include: when volcanic ash grounded all European airline travel we extended itineraries for multiple days until flights resumed; we’ve changed hotel locations and itineraries to avoid demonstrations in places like central Athens and immediately following the attacks in Paris on November 13th, 2016 we made alternate arrangements for groups traveling in the next several weeks to substitute other locations for Paris.
Our dedicated Emergency Service & Support Team can be reached 24 hours a day at our North American and European headquarters. Family members and friends can call 1-800-263-2809 from Canada, while travelers can make a collect call to 001-416-927-1911 while abroad.
EF’s recommended Global Travel Protection Plan gives you all the coverage below at one great price. The plan is automatically added to your account upon enrollment. With this plan, you are covered wherever you are in the world and have access to insurance representatives 24 hours a day. All your plan details are kept with your Tour Director while on tour, so you can relax and enjoy your trip of a lifetime! Find out more at www.eftours.ca/coverage.
In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable tour, all travelers should review the following items as they prepare to travel:
Medical needs
Please let us know if you have any medications and health concerns we should be aware of. All prescriptions should be filled, up-to-date and in the original packaging. Travelers should pack their prescriptions in their carry-on bag with copies of the prescription paperwork.
Dietary and health issues
Travelers should alert EF (call 1-800-263-2806 or pltours@ef.com) to any dietary or health-related issues that might affect them on tour so they can relay that information to the Tour Director. For example, if you carry an EpiPen for peanut or other allergies, please let us know where to find it and how to administer it in the event of an emergency. EF tries to accommodate all dietary restrictions during included meals, but travelers with strict food requirements are advised to bring suitable snack options.
Emergency contact
Travelers should confirm with EF that we have the correct emergency contact details on file. This person must be someone who will not be traveling and who is available to be reached for the duration of the tour.
